Plot size can influence yield benefits from fungicides

Fungicides are often evaluated in small-plot trials that are effective for assessment of disease control, but not very effective for assessment of true potential yield benefit.

Summit Agro USA R&D Manager Dr. Eric Tedford co-authored an article published in the journal Crop Protection investigating this question of whether plot size has an effect on the yield benefit of foliar fungicides.

The authors’ research found evidence to support the idea that larger plots are more reflective of yield benefits that growers might recognize from fungicides compared to smaller plots. This is important for growers to remember when assessing fungicide yield data as they choose crop protection solutions.

TIMOREX ACT Fungicide Receives California Registration for Fruits and Vegetables

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation has recently granted registration approval for TIMOREX ACT fungicide. This OMRI-listed product delivers advanced natural plant disease control in multiple fruit and vegetable crops.

This versatile fungicide from SummitAgro USA is based on a botanical extract of the tea tree plant. A purely organic formulation, TIMOREX ACT is highly effective against a broad spectrum of both foliar and soil-borne diseases.

TIMOREX ACT is a FRAC Code 46 fungicide containing the active ingredient tea tree oil. Because tea tree oil is a natural compound, and formulated with organic approved complementary components, TIMOREX ACT is OMRI listed for organic uses.

“TIMOREX ACT has unique activity against both fungal and bacterial plant pathogens.” explained Eric Tedford, SummitAgro field R&D manager. “Having activity against bacterial diseases as well as fungal diseases is a huge benefit to growers as both pathogens can greatly limit yield and quality and there are not many products available to growers for control of bacterial diseases.”

Tedford added that a useful training module for TIMOREX ACT is accessible at summitagro-usa.com.

TIMOREX ACT Training Video Now Available

In this new training video, SummitAgro USA R&D manager Dr. Eric Tedford dives into the properties of TIMOREX ACT fungicide and its active ingredient Tea Tree Oil, explaining why this product is truly remarkable for broad-spectrum control of fungal and bacterial diseases in a wide variety of crops for both organic and conventional production.

New REGEV Fungicide Creates Step Change in Plant Disease Control

DURHAM, NC —

SummitAgro USA is pleased to announce the introduction of the first hybrid fungicide for US agriculture – REGEV®. This next generation disease control product combines the benefits of a botanical product with the advantages of a conventional fungicide.

“REGEV brings together Tea Tree Oil and difenoconazole giving growers across a variety of crops a very effective disease control product, while reducing chemical usage and providing effective resistance management control,” said Fred Yates, SummitAgro marketing manager for botanical products. “The preventative and curative activity of REGEV with a broad crop and disease control label, plus its ability to enhance plant growth and yield all provide significant value to growers,” Yates added.

The hybrid nature of new REGEV means reducing the chemical load in treated crops, which differentiates it from conventional options. In addition, the multiple modes of action with REGEV presents a very low probability for the development of resistance or cross resistance in plant pathogens.

REGEV will be introduced in major crops such as soybeans, rice and potatoes as well as specialty crops including cucurbits, fruiting vegetables, bulb vegetables, brassica leafy vegetables, legume vegetables, grapes, tree nuts and citrus.

Yates explained that “studies have shown that the addition of Tree Tea Oil to difenoconazole improved the efficacy of difenoconazole and its sensitivity against fungal isolates.” The bottom line is growers can now obtain excellent disease control from two modes of action, yet with only one residue.
